Our story

Built to bring people together.

In 1996, on a spontaneous whim following a trade show in Dallas, Mike and Lynn McHenry located and purchased 112 acres just south of San Saba. Through the mentorship of Jim Johnson of nearby Alamosa Wine Cellars, they planted Cherokee Creek Vineyards in 2000.

On June 1, 2012, Wedding Oak Winery opened in the historic heart of San Saba — a restored 1926 tasting room and 10,000-case production facility at the intersection of U.S. Highway 190 and State Highway 16. Penny Adams, the first woman winemaker in Texas, was enlisted to lead the winemaking.

In September 2019 a second tasting room opened in Burnet, on the Burnet County Courthouse Square, in the historic Badger Building, originally constructed in 1883.

We went here for a wine tour tasting and it was amazing! This was a group favorite. They have great wines and a great atmosphere.

Addison F. · weddingoakwinery.com

Wines are excellent, with most grapes originating from the Texas High Plains region. And the staff is amazing, so welcoming, so well-informed and so attentive. Can’t say enough about this little gem! A must-stop!
